COLLEGE STATION, TX UNITED STATES 2023
Valmont Coatings - United Galvanizing
The decision to galvanize the steel components of the project was primarily driven by its corrosion protection properties, aesthetics and cost-effectiveness over other available options like paint or powder coating.
Hilton College Station, a prominent landmark in the heart of College Station, Texas, underwent a remarkable transformation in 2023. This remodel was not only aimed at revitalizing the aging building but also ensuring its long-term durability and aesthetic appeal for future students and community members to enjoy. Hot-dip galvanizing played a pivotal role in achieving these goals.
Hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for its convenience, turnaround time, and its capacity to support the customer’s specific needs. Hilton College Station is in a prime location and had to be quickly and effectively upgraded to meet the growing demands of the community.
The entire steel infrastructure of the project, including columns, braces, and sunshades were hot-dip galvanized. In fact, 98% of the steel used in the project underwent this process. The distinctive "Aggie gray" color was achieved, making the Hilton College Station a standout landmark.
Galvanizing a remodel project presented a unique challenge. Some columns had caps that required drilling holes for vent and drain purposes. The galvanizer chosen for the project was able to provide valuable engineering and design suggestions to address these challenges, ensuring the galvanized steel's appearance was pristine.
The decision to galvanize the College Station Hilton ensures its longevity for decades to come. This remodel project not only met Hilton's high standards but also enhanced the exterior aesthetics of the 40-year-old building. The building will benefit from the enduring protection and aesthetics provided by hot-dip galvanizing.
The galvanizer for the project was chosen due to several key factors. The galvanizer had the ability to support project timelines, demonstrating the capacity to meet the tight deadlines throughout the project. Secondly, the location of the galvanizer was close in proximity to the customer, meaning logistics would be more convenient and cost-effective. Lastly, the galvanizer has a proven track record of providing fluid communication throughout the course of the project. This effective communication and collaboration played a crucial role in the success of the project.
The transformation of Hilton College Station serves as a testament to the benefits of hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion protection and aesthetics. Aggies at Texas A&M and community members in College Station can now enjoy a revitalized landmark that will stand strong for decades to come, thanks to the expertise and support of the galvanizer.
