When a Galvanizing Kettle fails, molten zinc will wreak havoc with the Furnace and associated equipment in the pit. Once the frozen zinc is removed, the restoration work can begin in earnest. The CIC Pittsburgh team supported the plant operator with a replacement kettle, kettle supports, drain ports, cover plates, and an assortment of replacement combustion components. We then poured a new pad and completed a total reline of the furnace walls.
Here are pictures of the furnace before and after last week’s refractory work. Great job by our field crew!
