SoFi Stadium

The $5.5 billion SoFi stadium has changed the landscape of Los Angeles.

Adjacent to one of the world’s busiest airports, a 298-acre site was transformed with a centerpiece stadium – an anchor for a new sports, entertainment, and neighborhood complex. With thousands of connecting forged steel and ball pieces allowing natural light into the visitor’s experience, the striking SoFi Stadium will be as much of a Los Angeles landmark as Griffith Observatory, the Capitol Records Building or the Hollywood sign. The College Football Championship, the Olympics’ Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the Super Bowl are just a few of the upcoming prestigious events SoFi Stadium will host.

The $5.5 billion project is the most expensive stadium complex in the world and in order to live up to the fanfare, it needs to preserve its beauty and stature over the years. So, the design team called on the reliable corrosion protection system – hot-dip galvanized steel. The fabricator had a history of using hot-dip galvanizing on other high-profile projects such as San Francisco’s Salesforce Transit Center, so they were confident about the performance of hot-dip galvanizing. To add additional aesthetic appeal and more protection, the beautiful canopy that encircles the building was additionally powder coated white.

Over 70,000 tons of steel was used on this project. The sleek graceful powder coated hot dip galvanized steel system wraps around the stadium and provides a beautiful centerpiece to a newly re-imagined neighborhood in the world class city of Los Angeles.

This project was powered by a CIC Pittsburgh Galvanizing furnace.
